What Is the YFS Health & Dental Plan?

Most full-time undergrad students are automatically enrolled in the YFS (York Federation of Students) Health & Dental Plan each year. It covers preventive care, like cleanings and exams, along with partial coverage for things like fillings or emergency visits.The exact percentages depend on your plan year, so we always recommend checking your coverage summary or letting our front desk verify it for you.

How to Use Your York Student Dental Plan at Our Clinic

To use your plan here, just follow these three steps.

Step 1: Bring Your Student ID & Insurance Card

Bring your York student ID and your insurance information (your policy number is usually on your YFS plan confirmation email or card). With this information, we can confirm your coverage.

Step 2: We Direct Bill Your Insurance for You

After we verify your plan, we submit the claim straight to your insurer on your behalf. That means you won’t have to fill out forms or wait for reimbursement checks.

Step 3: Pay Only Your Out-of-Pocket Portion

You can log in to your Your Space account to verify your coverage, or contact our office, and we’ll explain what information you’ll need.

Remember, your GS ID number is your three-letter school code, your student number, and “-00” (example: YFS111222333-00).

Dental Cleaning & Checkups	Routine cleanings and exams are necessary, as they prevent more serious and costly dental issues. Your student dental plan covers 75% of the cost.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction	Wisdom teeth often start causing trouble, right in the middle of your university years. We perform wisdom teeth extractions that are partially covered by your plan. We’ll give you a clear cost estimate ahead of time.
Emergency Dental Care	We offer same-day emergency care, and your dental insurance plan covers certain appointments. Don’t wait on this one; some issues get worse (and pricier) the longer they sit.
Fillings, Crowns & Restorative Dentistry	Cavities and worn-down teeth usually require fillings, which receive 75% coverage.

I came in for a toothache, and the doctor found a very thin crack in my tooth. Since the pain was already getting better, she recommended that we observe it first and only do something if the pain comes back, thoroughly explaining the situation rather than rushing into a procedure/treatment that could unnecessarily damage my natural tooth.

That really stood out to us. Dr. Calotti listened, explained things clearly, and genuinely seemed to care more about the health of my teeth than simply pushing for a procedure. It gave us a lot of confidence and trust in her.

The receptionist was also very helpful, knowledgeable, and had such a welcoming and positive attitude.
